Some interesting Facts [July 2007]

I found these facts in an IT magazine and wanna share these with you.Happenings in the last month observed were..

• India has added 6.3 million mobile customers in May 2007.
• India would need 3,50,000 telecom towers by 2010 (The current number is 1,10,000)
• India is one of the first countries where digital music sales(Rs.1,026 crore or 10.3 billion)exceeded physical music sales(Rs.756 crore or Rs.7.6 billion)in 2006-07.
• The number of billion dollar companies in India has gone up from 29 (2001-02) to 71(2006-07),While the Chinese count has gone upto 90 from 18 over the same period.
• India has 203 paved runways, while USA has 5,119 paved runways.
• Insurance premium in India have dramatically increased from 525 crore (Rs 5.2 billion) in 1999-2000 to Rs 22,268 crore (Rs 222.7 billion) in 2006-07,thanks to privatization.
• 515 million people buy a newspaper everyday,while newspaper sales are going down marginally in the Western World (thanks to the internet),they are increasing in Asia, particularly India(thanks to improving literacy rates)!
• The GSM subscriber base reached 130 milllion in may 2007.
• Doordarshan launched mobile TV in India.
• Chinese company,HiTech Wealth,developed the World's first solar-powered mobile phone.
• AndhraPradesh managed to bring down transmission and distribution losses to 16.5% (half of the national average!).
